About Us

FlutEase came about in response to a need I saw in music education. I teach third through twelfth graders, and a continuing problem I encounter is beginner flute players often struggle to make a sound when they are first learning. Beginners have difficulty positioning their mouth to form an embouchure and quickly become frustrated. After a few weeks of this, children, and adult beginners alike, quit the flute, without ever really beginning it. Individuals who are able to make a sound at the beginning of their flute experience feel a sense of accomplishment and are more likely to continue playing. The first months of playing flute should be joyous and exciting, not anxiety-ridden.

FlutEase is a small attachment that slides onto the lip plate of the flute (where the student blows) and positions the mouth so that a sound can be made easily. FlutEase holds the mouth in the proper playing position, allowing notes to be played at the first lesson. This eliminates early weeks/months of beginner frustration. With FlutEase, students will feel an instant sense of progress, rather than delayed gratification that often contributes to feelings of failure and not enjoying the flute.

FlutEase is constructed of metal and rubber. The body of the FlutEase is a durable medical-grade soft plastic that wraps around the head joint of the flute.  It is held in place by a metal pin. The FlutEase measures 2 inches by 1.5 inches. It is lightweight (a few ounces), washable and easy to use.

All components of the FlutEase are manufactured and packaged in the USA.
